Job Description:
The Intern Architect position involves actively contributing to design development, project coordination, and technical documentation, while receiving guidance from senior staff.
Responsibilities:
- Support Architects through developing design concepts, presentation material, and contract documentation;
- Contribute actively to design development and project coordination with some independent decision-making;
- Prepare architectural plans and renderings, consult with manufacturers, evaluate and select materials;
- Develop design and technical design solutions for specific areas of a project and ensure the design integrity through the Design Development, Construction Documents, and Construction phases;
- Create a variety of materials including sketches, renderings, models, presentation boards, material boards, graphics, details, sections, elevations, and schedules;
- Assist in preparation of rezoning submission and development permit packages;
- Establish productive working relationships, and deal effectively and cooperatively with team members, consultants, and government agencies;
- Assist in preliminary code and by-law analysis;
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the appropriate use of building systems, materials, and technologies. Show initiative in the research of alternative systems and materials;
- Demonstrate knowledge of building, planning, and zoning codes as they relate to the project and its design;
- Review shop drawings and submittals for technical and design intent compliance;
- Take on project tasks with increased independence, including leading smaller aspects of a project under the guidance of senior staff;
Assignment will be based on specific project requirements and general workload requirements to provide the opportunity for professional development.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Architecture;
- Must be registered with the AIBC;
- 2–4 years of professional experience in a local architectural office;
- Proficiency in Revit;
- Strong knowledge of design documents including guidelines, reports, comprehensive planning documents, and final presentation materials;
- Technical knowledge and understanding of the architectural and engineering components of a building, and the relationship these components have as part of a building system.
- Knowledge of relevant building, planning, and zoning codes;
- Proficiency in preparing construction documents;
- Verbal, written, graphic, and drafting skills necessary to communicate concepts and solutions to team members, clients, consultants, and contractors;
- Experience with mid-rise and/or high-rise residential/mixed-use projects in Canada.
- Experience with wood-frame projects in Canada is a plus.
