Job Description:
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Architect to join our expanding team in the North Vancouver Studio. This role is perfect for a design-oriented architect passionate about leading the creative vision for complex projects. You will collaborate closely with clients, the Principal, consultants, and internal teams to develop and refine design concepts from initial ideation through detailed execution, ensuring exceptional quality, alignment with client objectives, and adherence to our firm's core values of innovation, cultural Sensitivity, sustainability, and functionality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Partner with the Principal to guide design direction across multiple projects, spanning conceptual phases through construction documentation and administration.
- Interpret client needs, the firm's design philosophy , project goals, and program requirements into compelling architectural solutions.
- Mentor and oversee junior team members in the preparation of design drawings, models, presentations, and technical coordination, while fostering a collaborative and creative team culture.
- Deliver engaging presentations of design concepts, strategies, and progress updates to clients, stakeholders, community groups, and internal teams.
- Work alongside Project Managers and Technical Leads to integrate design vision with project budgets, timelines, constructability considerations, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct site analyses, feasibility studies, and research on industry trends, emerging materials, technologies, and sustainable practices to inform and elevate project outcomes.
- Participate in in-house peer reviews, design critiques, and quality assurance processes to uphold the highest standards of work under the Principal's guidance.
- Support business development efforts by contributing to proposal responses for RFPs/RFQs, design competitions, and client pitches, showcasing the firm's expertise.
- Ensure all designs adhere to local building codes, zoning regulations, and environmental standards, incorporating sustainable strategies such as LEED principles where applicable.
Qualifications
- Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch). preference for registration or licensure with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC).
- 10+ years of professional experience in architecture, with proven leadership in design-driven projects across various scales and typologies.
- A robust portfolio demonstrating design excellence, creativity, and successful project delivery in areas such as residential, community, commercial, or institutional architecture.
- Advanced proficiency in design and modeling software, including Rhino, SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with BIM processes and rendering tools (e.g., Lumion or V-Ray) is a plus.
- Outstanding conceptual, visual, and graphic communication skills, with experience in creating detailed drawings, 3D models, and client-g presentations.
- Strong leadership, mentorship abilities, coupled with excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills for multidisciplinary team environments.
- Demonstrated experience presenting to clients, design review boards, and public forums, with a track record of building strong stakeholder relationships.
- In-depth knowledge of sustainable design practices, building codes, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies in the architectural field.
